Roy toys almost gone, too

Bobblehead supply limited

Now that Roy Williams has hightailed it to North Carolina, what happens to the doll he left behind?

The bobblehead doll, that is.

“We’re not planning anything special — we have about a hundred left,” said Stephanie Temple, merchandising manager at KUStore.com, KU athletic department’s official sportswear and memorabilia outlet.

Williams won 418 games in 15 seasons at Kansas, but the coach disappointed many Jayhawk fans when he bolted for his alma mater last Monday.

“People are still buying them,” said Susan Wachter, the department’s chief financial officer. “We shipped three of them out this morning.”

The athletic department announced in December that it had 1,500 of the dolls for sale and that a portion of the proceeds would be donated to a charity of Williams’ choice.

Williams, however, left town without picking a worthy cause.

“We’ll have to contact him and verify that,” Wachter said, adding that she “wasn’t sure” of the percentage set aside for charity.

The remaining bobblehead dolls are available at www.KUStore.com — click on ‘Men’s Basketball.’ They sell for $30 apiece.
