NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO. ? The father of Kansas University guard Kirk Hinrich has been hired as boys’ basketball coach at North Kansas City High.

Jim Hinrich would not comment Thursday beyond confirming that he had taken the job after coaching 28 seasons at Sioux City (Iowa) West High School, his son’s alma mater.

Kirk Hinrich played on his father’s only state-championship team in 1999.

“Jim has had a stellar career,” North Kansas City activities director John Spotts said. “He comes highly recommended. Sioux City West is similar to North Kansas City — same size, same demographics.”

Jim Hinrich’s daughter, Jill, lives nearby in Overland Park.
