Students compete in history competition

Nearly 300 students will present topics in “Rights and Responsibilities in History” Saturday at the Kansas History Day Competition at Eisenhower Center in Abilene. Students who receive first or second-place will advance to the National History Day competition June 15-19 at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Lawrence participants include Hannah Frydman, Matthias Heilke, Hillary Spratt, Maya Weil, Brenna Daldorph, Mulligan Greenwell, Emma Hoyle, Jordan Crice and Sarah Zimmerman, all of Central Junior High School; Audrey Southard, Allison Edwards, Eleanor Ott and Annie McEnroe, all of Free State High School; and Liz Stuewe, Drew Cummings, Jamie Huston, Kristina Clement, Amy Connolly, Samantha Birchfield, Erin Niedenthal, Whitney Juneau, Ariel George, Jessica Hirschey and Andrew McKee, all of Lawrence High School.

Charity golf tournament seeks participants

Spaces are still available for Housing and Credit Counseling’s 10th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament Saturday at Village Greens Golf Course in Ozawkie.

The four-person scramble starts at 8 a.m. with three flights. The $50 per-player fee, or $200 per team, includes a cart, green fees, continental breakfast, live barbecue, beverages and entry into hole contests. Of the fee, $25 per-player is tax-deductible.

Tickets are $5 each or three for $10 and can be purchased in advance or at the event. Proceeds go to education and counseling services for budgeting, credit, debt repayment and home ownership opportunities.
