Huskers dominate first day

Nebraska made its presence felt on day one of the Kansas Relays as three NU women led the heptathlon race and three Husker men controlled the decathlon.

Nebraska’s Ashley Selig (3,014 points), Cassie Witte (2,811) and Sara Jane Baker (2,760) led the heptathlon after four events, while Huskers Casey Thom (3,726), Chris Richardson (3,566) and Jesse Colburn (3,475) had the top three spots in the decathlon after five events.

Selig won both the 200-meter dash (25.09) and the 100 hurdles (14.68) and came in second in the high jump (5-5) behind Baker (5-6).

Ashley Dingels of St. Mary’s won the shot put with a mark of 35-71/4.

For the men, Thom won the 400 (49.46) and the long jump (21-111/2). Ryan Koontz of Independence took the high jump (6-083/4) and Colburn won the shot put (42-081/2). Jordan Kitchen of Wichita State won the 100 (11.03).

The decathlon and heptathlon continue at 8:30 this morning at Memorial Stadium.
