Texas Tech holds off KU baseball rally

? Scooter Jordan went 3-for-4 to lead Texas Tech to a 5-4 Big 12 Conference baseball victory Saturday over Kansas University.

Jordan drove in one run with a single in the Red Raiders’ four-run second inning and doubled in the sixth to drive in another run that turned out to be the difference.

Dusty Buck (2-1) got the win for Texas Tech (23-14 overall, 5-8 Big 12), allowing two earned runs on six hits during six innings. Chris Smart (1-2) suffered the loss for Kansas (27-15, 3-8) in a complete game, allowing 12 hits and five runs, all earned, over eight innings.

“We played pretty well today both offensively and defensively,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “We’ll need to get after it (today) to try and win the series.”

The Red Raiders took a 4-0 lead in the second on RBI singles by Doug Beck, Jordan and Madison Edwards and a sacrifice fly by Sean Alexander.

Kansas got one run in the fourth when Ryan Baty doubled and later scored on Matt Tribble’s sacrifice fly. The Jayhawks got a second run in the sixth on Casey Spanish’s RBI single.

After Tech’s lead grew to 5-2, Kansas pulled within a run on two runs on three hits against reliever Jeff Karstens, who replaced Buck in the seventh. Karstens held off the Jayhawks in the ninth to pick up his sixth save.

The series is tied, 1-all, and will conclude with a single game that will being at 1 p.m. today. KU never has won a Big 12 series against a Texas school
