KU student play competes at Kennedy Center in D.C.

“Attack of the Asians,” a 10-minute play by Tim Macy, a fall 2002 Kansas University graduate from Noel, Mo., is the only entry from Region 5 of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival still competing for a top award at the national festival Monday through April 20 in Washington, D.C.

The Kennedy Center is underwriting Macy’s week-long stay in the nation’s capital, where he will attend rehearsals of his play and participate in playwriting workshops offered in conjunction with the festival.

Macy’s play will be given a staged reading Saturday, along with seven other 10-minute play regional winners from across the country. The national winner will receive a cash award of $1000, publication of the play by Dramatic Publishing Inc., and a full fellowship to attend a short play festival next summer sponsored by Dad’s Garage Theatre Company in Atlanta.

“Attack of the Asians” was written originally for a beginning playwriting class taught by Paul Lim in KU’s English department.
