To the editor:

I have been in Lawrence and at the University of Kansas for 2 1/2 years, and Tuesday evening, I was privileged to experience what it really means to be a Jayhawk. I speak, of course, of the rally at Allen Fieldhouse to welcome home the basketball team and coaching staff. I don’t know the words to the alma mater or the fight song, but it didn’t matter. This was truly one of the very highest points in my time at KU so far.

I have, since coming here, been impressed by the classiness of the basketball program and staff. And it was reinforced again Tuesday. What a very special group of men we had this year representing the university, the city and the state. The chancellor was so right when he talked about their class.

Whatever Coach decides, it will be the right decision for him and his family and, ultimately, for the university. But I’d be missing it if I didn’t say that I, along with so many others, hope he stays in Lawrence and at KU.
