Arab students’ chants of “long live Palestine” didn’t deter Yitzhak Rabin, former prime minister of Israel, from telling a Kansas University audience that Arab-Israeli peace negotiations should continue and be expanded. In a J.A. Vickers Sr. Memorial Lecture Series address that was interrupted about 30 times by Arab sympathizers, mostly student protesters from campus, Rabin said he hoped Jordan eventually could join talks between Egypt and Israel. The talks were stalemated at the time.

IN 1963

A gasoline explosion and fire at Bellinger Electric, 814 Mass., caused heavy damage but nobody was injured.
