Texas Tech topples KU

? Erin Crawford held the 23rd-ranked Kansas University softball team hitless through four innings as Texas Tech upended the Jayhawks, 8-4, Sunday.

The Red Raiders (15-33 overall, 2-9 Big 12 Conference) scored in every inning after the second, pounding out 10 hits. Texas Tech scored seven of its eight runs off KU starter Kirsten Milhoan (8-5).

Crawford (6-12) scattered six hits while striking out two.

Kansas (22-12, 2-6) did not get its first hit until freshman Jessica Moppin opened the fifth inning with a single. After singles by Moppin and Mel Wallach and a walk by Sandy Smith to load the bases, Nettie Fierros singled to score Moppin, making the score 6-1.

Sylvia Pfeiffer followed with a pinch-hit double, scoring pinch-runner Ashley Goodrich and Wallach. KU got its final run on a sacrifice fly hit by Destiny Frankenstein.

The Red Raiders had five doubles on the day, led by Kristi Robles, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

The Jayhawks had six hits, led by Moppin and Wallach, who both went 2-for-3.

Kansas will play a doubleheader at Creighton starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Omaha, Neb.
