Old home town – 40 and 100 years ago today
IN 1963
Kansas University and Wichita University were still involved in an American Legion disagreement about where the Boys’ State program should be conducted. Wichita had been the site for many years but the event had been shifted to KU and Wichita was fighting to regain it.
IN 1903
From the Lawrence Daily World of April 7, 1903: “There is not much fun in the city election here today. Lawrence is anything but a scrappy town. Our people are orderly and quiet and are averse to unseemly demonstrations. …. The University reopened this morning after the annual spring recess. Many of the students did not return until this afternoon, however, and the morning classes were rather poorly attended.”
