Lawrence firefighters to carry flag at game

A group of Lawrence firefighters will present the colors Saturday at the Kansas City Royals game.

Five firefighters from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical will take the field carrying the U.S. flag and the flag of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1596.

The firefighters are members of the local union’s honor guard, formed in 2001 to represent all firefighters at ceremonial functions.

The game against the Cleveland Indians starts at 1:05 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium.

The collision happened two miles east of the Douglas County line.

Parade committee hands over $38,000

The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence Wednesday received a $38,000 check from this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade charity auction.

“We want to thank the community for its support,” said Deb Drummet, one of the St. Patrick’s Day committee members who organized the auction.

The amount raised surpassed the $30,000 total the committee donated last year to the Douglas County Infant-Toddler Coordinating Council.
