NFL Injuries: Jets’ Testaverde bruises shoulder

New York Jets quarterback Vinny Testaverde was hurt during New York’s 28-3 loss to Jacksonville. He was cleared to return from his bruised shoulder, but coach Herman Edwards left in backup Chad Pennington. Testaverde’s X-rays came back negative.

The Bears were already missing three defensive starters including tackle Ted Washington when they lost linebacker Warrick Holdman, who sprained his right knee in the second quarter of Chicago’s 33-27 overtime loss to Buffalo.

Tennessee cornerback Samari Rolle left the Titans’ game against the Oakland Raiders with a hamstring injury late in the first quarter. Rolle was one of three players who brought down Raiders receiver Jerry Rice after a 75-yard pass play with 58 seconds left in the first quarter.

Coach Jeff Fisher said Rolle had a severely pulled hamstring, but didn’t say whether he would miss any more time.

In addition, receiver Derrick Mason separated his left shoulder and will be out several weeks, Fisher said.

The Saints had to finish their game against the Lions without receivers Joe Horn (knee) and Donte Stallworth (hamstring). Stallworth had just three catches for 14 yards, but he caught a four-yard TD pass from Aaron Brooks. Horn had six catches for 87 yards.

Green Bay receiver Terry Glenn, who missed practice this week because of migraines, left the Packers’ game against Carolina with a headache and did not return. Glenn caught one pass in the first half, a 17-yarder that helped set up a Green Bay field goal.

The Dolphins had two players hurt. Left tackle Mark Dixon had a high ankle sprain, and kick returner Albert Johnson sprained his left knee; he’s scheduled to have an MRI today.

Chargers cornerback Tay Cody dislocated a toe, and linebacker Donnie Edwards had bruised ribs.

Also, Chiefs punter Dan Stryzinski sprained his left ankle.
