Denim Day coming soon

New York Looking around at all the shapes and shades of jeans out there, it would be easy to think that every day is denim day, but according to Lee Jeans, the real National Denim Day is Friday.

Lee and this year’s spokeswoman, actress Melina Kanakaredes, encourages everyone to put on their denim that day and make a $5 donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The goal is raise $7.5 million.

Last year, more than 1 million people at 20,000 companies raised $6 million on Denim Day.

Kanakaredes, star of NBC’s “Providence,” said she was participating in the event in honor of her close friend Katina Antonopoulos, who was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago. Antonopoulos was proactive in detecting a lump by performing monthly breast self-examinations.

“On Lee National Denim Day everyone who wears jeans and donates $5 will be thinking about breast health for themselves and those they love. With millions of people banning together like that, we will surely make a difference,” Kanakaredes said in a statement.

Cropped pants make transition to fall

New York The cropped pants that normally are so popular during the summer have made the transition to fall in fabrics ranging from denim to tweed. But finding tops and shoes to make the seasonal leap with these bottoms might pose a challenge.

Lucky’s editors offer possible solutions in the October issue of the magazine, promising a style that is “coolly nonchalant, boyish yet serious.”

Lucky suggests balancing the small shape of the pants with looser-fitting sweaters on top. Classic boots complete the look and keep those ankles warm.

Beauty editors pick makeup winners

New York Beauty editors and the women who buy the magazines want the same thing out of their makeup a great look but these groups sometimes differ on what is the best product.

The “Best of Beauty” is revealed in the October issue of Allure, with the magazine listing the both the editors’ and readers’ choices.

The winners include:

Best foundation. The editors picked Prescriptives Virtual Skin for its thorough coverage and Prescriptives Traceless because it’s “without VMLs visible makeup lines.” Readers picked Revlon’s ColorStay Makeup, Clinique Superbalanced Makeup and Prescriptives Traceless.

Best lipstick. Among the favorites of the editors are Chantecaille Lip Sheer in Nebula for being vampy yet dewy, Cover Girl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor in Timeless Ruby because it stays on through a Caesar salad, and Chanel Whisperlight Infrarouge Lipstick in Hot Nature because it’s a brownish berry color that feels lights. Readers liked Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherries in the Snow and Clinique Long Last Soft Shine Lipstick in Bamboo Pink.
