Leslie W. Blevins Sr.

Services for Leslie W. Blevins Sr., 85, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Blevins died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born June 23, 1917, in Lawrence, the son of William Henry and Nellie M. (Cook) Blevins.

Mr. Blevins served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He owned Blevins’ Bike Shop and Blevins’ Honda in Lawrence for several years before selling the businesses in 1973. For 15 years he was a foreman in wing assembly and a supervisor in the Employee Suggestion Unit for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita. He also worked as a locksmith at Kansas University from 1974 to 1979.

Mr. Blevins’ memberships include First Christian Church of Lawrence, National Rifle Assn., Ducks Unlimited, Travelers Protective Assn. and University Club at KU. He was a Douglas County Master Gardener and a member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

He married Eleanor Bunyan on June 23, 1938, in Lawrence. They divorced in 1958. He married Oletha Nelson Yates on July 8, 1962, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Leslie W. Jr. and Gary W., both of Lawrence; a daughter, Barbara N. Blevins, Lawrence; five grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
