Contact Person: Midge Grinstead, 843-6835

The Humane Society needs volunteers from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. to walk, bathe and train animals a couple hours a day. Volunteers may choose what days and hours they come in, but weekday afternoons are needed the most.

Volunteers must be over the age of 12 and may choose whether they want to work with dogs or cats. Children usually work with puppies and kittens. The society has 180 dogs and 225 cats.

Volunteers will have to complete an hourlong orientation, which is at 4:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month.

Last week’s results

Big Brothers and Big Sisters received 15 to 20 calls from people volunteering to join the Bigs in Schools Program. They still need about 50 more volunteers. Volunteers, paired with a child based on personality traits, visit their child in school for one or two hours a week. Activities range from sports to helping with homework.
