Voice on Iraq

To the editor:

This is madness to unilaterally declare war on Iraq without a “decent respect to the opinions of mankind.” Have WE become the bully and outlaw of the whole world that we refuse to let the world body deliberate and act with accord?

Why this deliberate haste, Mr. Bush? Can it be a diversion so close to the November election from the festering issues on OUR OWN homefront? The real issues of homeland security? Our huge deficit? The scandals that have rocked your bedfellows, the large corporations? The loss of pensions and real security for the victims of these scandals? The 11.6 million children growing up in poverty? The 40 million without health care? The numbers who are homeless and ill-housed? The elderly now choosing between needed medicines and adequate nutrition? The growing gap between the rich and the rest of us?

Mr. Bush, is this sudden, urgent war YOUR “weapon of mass distraction”?

Time for the rest of us to rouse ourselves from the hype of 9-11 and the saber-rattling since and speak truth to power while there yet is time. Each of us has a voice and a vote!
