Missionary Baptist to have yard, bake sale

First Regular Missionary Baptist Church, 1646 Vt., will have its second annual Yard and Bake Sale/Car Wash from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28. A donation of $8 is requested per vehicle for the car wash.

St. John’s to celebrate Oktoberfest Oct. 5

St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Ky., will have its sixth annual Oktoberfest celebration from 4:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Oct. 5. The celebration will feature German food, dancing and children’s activities.

A Polka Mass will be at 4:30 p.m., with live accordion music from 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m. The Ed Grisnick Orchestra will perform polka music from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. The Kansas City Liederkranz choral group also will perform.

Women’s Retreat to be in Wichita

The Kansas Women’s Retreat will be Oct. 4-5 at Park Place Assembly of God in Wichita. Registration is $25 per person if postmarked by Friday. At the door, the price is $30.

First United Methodist to celebrate seniors

Senior adults will be celebrated Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. The Rev. Cal Dickinson, retired clergy member of the Kansas East Conference, will be featured at Senior Adult Sunday. Dickinson and his wife, Ruth, live in Baldwin. The First Church senior adults will participate in the service.

The annual United Methodist Men’s Lad and Dad night is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall. Dads are encouraged to bring their sons, and Boy Scout Troop 52 is invited to join the group. Guest minister to preach at Plymouth

John Krueger, the United Church of Christ conference minister for Kansas and Oklahoma, will preach during the 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services Sunday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Friendship Sunday set for Trinity Lutheran

Missionary to speak at Assembly of God

Dominic Galati Jr., a missionary and evangelist from Compelled 2 Go Ministries International, will speak today and Sunday at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway. Galati will be at the 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. services Sunday.

From 9 a.m.-noon today, there will be a street witnessing in Lawrence.

On Wednesdays through Dec. 11, there will be an exercise class for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. This class, scheduled 1 p.m.-2 p.m., will be taught by Janet Hamburg, professor of dance at Kansas University. The public is invited to participate.

Heartland Community to show ‘True Separation’

Heartland Community Church, 619 Vt., will present the premiere of the new 45-minute video “True Separation” at its 11 a.m. Sunday service.

The film was written and produced in Lawrence. It is about a Kansas University pre-law rock guitar player’s assignment to judge a class debate over the constitutionality of the university’s seal Moses and the burning bush.

Cast and crew members will be honored at a brief reception at noon.

Church of the Nazarene to have Chiclets classes

The Chiclets class continues for ages 18-29+ at 9 a.m. Sunday in the Jericho Center Circle of Chairs at First Church of the Nazarene, 1470 N. 1000 Road.

The second annual community homemade chicken noodle dinner will be 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Oct. 4.

The second annual car and hot rod show and swap meet will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 5. Concessions will be available. Trophies will be awarded.

West Side Presbyterian to launch campaign

Kickoff for the Stewardship 2002 Campaign at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, will be an all-church potluck dinner after morning worship Sunday. The fall congregational meeting will be convened after the meal. Deacons and elders will be elected to the class of 2005 and a financial report for the first eight months of 2002 will be presented.

Beginning Sept. 29 and continuing the next three Sundays, a bible study utilizing Covenants of Stewardship materials will be held. A light snack will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the study afterward.

The Women’s Assn. will have its first fall meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, when new officers will be elected and installed for 2002-2004. A report on summer youth activities will be presented at the meeting. Liz Snyder attended Girl’s State and a conference at Montreat West in Colorado; and Tim Burgess and Julie McGinn participated in the work camp at Heartland Presbyterian Camp and a work project in Alabama.

Friendship Sunday set for Immanuel Lutheran

Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center, 2104 W. 15th St., will observe Friendship Sunday and New Member Sunday on Sunday. The celebrations will be during the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. The public is invited.

Adult information classes begin Sept. 29. Senior pastor Don Miller will facilitate the sessions, which will be held eight consecutive weeks at 7 p.m. in the church’s Friendship Center on the northeast end of the church’s parking lot.

Immanuel’s information classes are designed for adult members of the community who are interested in learning more about the teachings of the Bible and the Lutheran Church and for those who desire to become a part of Immanuel’s ministry. The sessions also offer an opportunity for existing members to review the basic teachings of the church.

Calvary Temple starts group for young adults

A new group called Christ’s Ambassadors will be from 5:15 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. Oct. 6 at Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace. The group is for ages 18-35, and will be led by the Rev. Tom and Dayane Hubbard.
