Two killed in crash

Two people died when their car rolled off a Stevens County road, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Horace “Buck” Bell, 56, and Rhonda Wesley, 46, both of Hugoton, were pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened Monday afternoon, about three-quarters of a mile west of Hugoton.

Deputies weren’t sure what had caused the vehicle to roll.

Hydroplaning car strikes Highway Patrol trooper

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper was injured when he was struck by a car early Wednesday evening on the Kansas Turnpike.

The incident occurred three miles north of the Wellington exit, where Master Trooper Tom Stohr was investigating a pickup truck that had traveled off the highway.

A car hydroplaned in the northbound lanes and struck Stohr and the pickup driver.

Stohr was flown to a Wichita hospital and was later released.

The driver of the pickup was taken to Wellington hospital.

ADA suit filed against Spangles restaurants

A restaurant company operating diners in Wichita and four other Kansas communities is accused in a lawsuit of not complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The suit says violations include lack of handicapped parking at the headquarters as well as missing signs and incorrect size and quantity of parking spaces at restaurants.

The plaintiffs are Wichita-based Independent Living Resource Center Inc., and two people who use wheelchairs.
