Downed power line stalls U.S. Highway 24 traffic

Traffic was stopped for about 90 minutes Thursday morning because of a downed power line on U.S. Highway 24 near Williamstown northwest of Lawrence.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers stopped traffic on Highway 24 from Midland Junction to about the U.S. Highway 59 junction, dispatchers said.

Jefferson County dispatchers said they had received a report about 5 a.m. of a utility pole fire. The Williamstown Rural Fire Department responded.

The highway was reopened before 7 a.m. No other details were available early Thursday morning.
