More rain expected this week

If you’re hoping for some more rain for your drought-stricken lawn, the wait won’t be long  there’s a 50 percent chance for showers on Wednesday.

“There could be strong thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon and evening,” said Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist.

During the weekend, the Lawrence area received more than a half-inch of rain, with heavier amounts recorded in the southwest part of the city.

That brings the total official rainfall for the year to 20.85 inches. Normal rainfall for this time of year is 29.89 inches.

“We’re nine inches below normal,” Makens said.

Monday’s skies will be sunny with a high of 82. The overnight low will drop down to 53.

“This morning we got down to 46, which is about as cold as we’ve seen since last May,” Makens said. Tuesday’s highs will be in the 80s, with clouds rolling in during the afternoon.

After the chance of rain Wednesday, dry but cooler weather is on the way for the weekend, when the highs could be in the 60s.

Nice weather should return Thursday.

A cool weekend may be in store with possible highs in the 60s.
