Mary Frances Woelfel

Services for Mary Frances Woelfel, 94, Lawrence, are pending and will be announced by Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Mrs. Woelfel died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was born March 24, 1908, in McAlester, Okla., the daughter of James C. and Edna (Hefley) Washinka. She spent her childhood in Texas, graduating from Wesley Junior College in Greenville, Tex. She then taught school for a brief period before attending Oklahoma State University, where she belonged to Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She and her husband lived in Pittsburg, Columbus, Ohio, Galveston, Tex., Columbia, Mo., Ponca City, Okla., and Tucson, Green Valley and Prescott, Ariz. A homemaker, Mrs. Woelfel was active in local school and arts organizations, including long-term service as an officer in the Tucson Opera Guild.

She married Warren C. Woelfel on July 30, 1933, in Stillwater, Okla. He died in 2001.

Survivors include a son, James Woelfel, Lawrence; three granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

The family suggests memorials to the Foundation for Hospice Care, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
