Be big in schools

Agency: Big Brothers Big Sisters

Address: 211 E. Eighth St.

Contact Person: Becki Stutz, 843-7359

Big Brothers Big Sisters needs 150 volunteers to help staff its new program, Bigs in School. Volunteers age 16 or older will spend an hour a week in school with a child. Exact activities will depend on the child’s needs, but sharing lunch, playing basketball, reading and helping out with homework are examples of what volunteers and children will do together. Children are referred to the program by teachers who feel they need a little help in a variety of problems, school-related, social and personal.

To apply, volunteers need to fill out an application and do a brief interview with Stutz. Information given in this process is used to pair volunteers up with children. Background checks and screening are required. Volunteers also can apply by e-mail at info@mentoringmagic.org. For more information, visit the Web site at www.mentoringmagic.org.
