Kansan killed in air crash

A 58-year-old man died Sunday when his ultralight aircraft crashed in a field in Johnson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Timothy J. Inglis of Roeland Park was flying the ultralight when, for reasons unknown, the aircraft went down about 7 p.m. near 175th Street and Kenneth Road in Stillwell.

Inglis was taken to KU Med, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials provided no other details late Sunday. The crash is under investigation.

Bridge lessons offered

The Northeast Kansas Unit of the American Contract Bridge League is offering a series of four modern-bridge lessons. Classes start at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and will be every Wednesday evening at the same time at the Multi-Purpose Room of the Douglas County Senior Center, 745 Vt.

LMH sponsors hearing loss program for adults

Lawrence Memorial Hospital is sponsoring “What Did You Say? Hearing Loss in Adulthood,” from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Local otolaryngologist, Dr. Stephen Segebrecht, will discuss signs and causes of hearing loss. He also will talk about diagnosis, therapy and aids that can help improve daily life for those with hearing loss.

The Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center reports that over 25 million Americans have some degree of hearing loss and, as the average age of the population increases, this number will rise.

LMH offers support group for families who lost a baby

Lawrence Memorial Hospital will play host to SHARE: Infant and Pregnancy Loss Support Group from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.

The group will provide emotional, psychological and moral support for those who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death. Meetings will be the third Tuesday of each month.

Topics will vary on the needs of the group, but information, education and resources will be discussed.

There is no fee and registration is not necessary. Childcare is provided.

Free lunch-hour concerts begin

The lineup for the Brown Bag Classics series will feature Kansas University faculty and student soloists or ensembles during the lunch hour in the Kansas Union.

The free recitals are at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays in Alderson Auditorium.

Scheduled are pianist Robert Koenig and trombonist Michael Hall, Sept. 18; pianist Alice Downs, Sept. 25; soprano Pamela Hinchman and pianist Ellen Bottoroff, Oct. 2; pianist Jack Winerock, Oct. 9; Men’s Glee Club, Oct. 30; Women’s Chorale, Nov. 6; Instrumental Collegium Musicum, Nov. 13; pianist Lori Dunn, Nov. 20 ; and the electronic music studio students of Kip Haaheim, Dec. 11.

The recitals are free. Audience members can bring their lunches; soft drinks are provided.
