Fredrick J. Hermreck

Services for Fredrick J. Hermreck, 74, Lawrence, will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Ottawa. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mr. Hermreck died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.

He was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Bush City, the son of Fred William and Beulah P. (Eyman) Hermreck. He graduated from Garnett High School in 1945.

Mr. Hermreck had lived in the Garnett area for 20 years before moving to Ottawa in 1951. He moved to Osawatomie in 1971 and to Lawrence in 1978.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 and was stationed in Maryland. He was a high-speed radio operator for the Army from September 1950 to December 1951 in Korea, during the Korean War.

Mr. Hermreck was a salesman at Gambles Department Store in Ottawa from 1952 to 1971, and owned and operated a Gambles store in Osawatomie from 1971 to 1978. He became a Realtor and broker associated with Hedges Real Estate in Lawrence, where he worked until he retired in 1997.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Osawatomie, and a former member of American Legion Post in Lawrence and Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge.

He married Mildred “Mickey” Finch on April 16, 1949, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother and stepfather, Hubert and Beulah Roeckers, both of Garnett; two daughters, Michelle Gray and Marsha Hermreck, both of Ottawa; a son, David, Germantown, Md.; a brother, Larry, Vero Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Roberta Boyer, Lawrence, and Barbara Burwell, Manhattan; two stepbrothers, Richard Roeckers and Henry Roeckers, both of Garnett; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
