Williams impresses during recruiting

Two of Kansas University’s top men’s basketball recruits might have been tempted, but did not orally commit during KU coach Roy Williams’ in-home visits this week.

By all accounts Omar Wilkes, 6-foot-4 from Los Angeles, and David Padgett, 6-11 from Reno, Nev., were enthralled with Williams’ two-hour presentations Tuesday and Monday respectively, but remain uncommitted.

“It was hard not to (commit),” Wilkes told Russ Blake of Rivalshoops.com, “but I like the other three schools on my list a lot, so it wouldn’t have been fair to shut the door just because of a very impressive first home visit.”

Wilkes, who has visited KU and California, heads to UCLA on Sept. 20-21 and Stanford on Sept. 27-28. His dad, Jamaal, played at UCLA.

Padgett, Wilkes’ AAU teammate, met with Williams and KU assistant Joe Holladay on Monday.

“It was just an opportunity to talk when things aren’t so hectic,” David’s dad, Pete, told Shay Wildeboor of Rivals.com. “Nothing really new comes up, but it’s a real thrill having these two coaches in our home. They are great people and they are classy people.”

Pete Padgett and his wife are planning a visit to North Carolina. They’ve already visited the campuses of their son’s other finalists  KU, Arizona and Stanford.

Marcus Dove, 6-7 from Long Beach, Calif., had his in-home with Williams on Wednesday night. He will visit KU on Sept. 20-21 and Arizona State on Sept. 27-29. His other finalists are Oklahoma State, Long Beach State, Washington and South Florida.

Stephen Verwers, 6-10 from Weatherford, Texas, will have his in-home with Williams on Sept. 19. He tells Blake he also will have in-homes with coaches from Arkansas, Texas Christian, Southern Methodist, Colorado State, Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State.

Ekene Ibekwe, 6-9 from Carson, Calif., will have his in-home visit with Williams on Sept. 24 and will attend Late Night With Roy Williams on Oct. 11. He told Rick Kimbrel of Pac10Recruiting.com he is down to KU, USC, Arizona and Maryland. He’s visiting Maryland this weekend.
