LHS girls’ tennis splits matches

? Lawrence High’s girls tennis team split a pair of matches Wednesday, beating Leavenworth, 4-0, but losing to Shawnee Mission North, 3-1.

Jac Samp won both her matches at No. 2 singles, improving to 2-1. No. 1 singles player Becca Fritzel won her first match, 8-1, but later lost, 8-2, in sweltering temperatures.

The No. 1 doubles team of Carrie Jones and Ashley Woodward split their matches, while the No. 2 team of Cara Breeden and Jami Powell did the same.

The Lions have their home opener Wednesday against Olathe South and Shawnee Mission South at 3 p.m. at the LHS tennis courts.
