Suspect detained in reports of stabbing, assault

A 19-year-old Lawrence man was being held without bond Monday in the Douglas County Jail after he allegedly stabbed another man.

The suspect was at the apartment of an acquaintance in the 400 block of West 13th Street around 3:30 a.m. Monday when the acquaintance, a 27-year-old man, asked him to leave, said Sgt. Paul Fellers of the Lawrence Police Department.

The suspect left, but returned to the apartment around 4:05 a.m., Fellers said, and allegedly stabbed the victim once when he opened the door.

The suspect also allegedly swung his knife at a 32-year-old Lawrence man who was in the apartment, leading police to also hold him on suspicion of aggravated assault.

The stabbing victim was treated and released at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, a nursing supervisor said Monday.
