Davison makes roster with Jets

Former Kansas University defensive back Andrew Davison complained when his name wasn’t called in last April’s NFL draft, blaming the KU coaching staff for not lobbying him for postseason all-star games.

So Davison signed as a free agent with the New York Jets and, after the final NFL cuts were made during the weekend, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Davison was still on the Jets’ roster.

Two other members of the 2001 KU football team  Nate Dwyer and Justin Hartwig  also earned roster spots. Both were draftees. Dwyer, a 6-3, 313-pound defensive tackle, was a fourth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals while Hartwig, a 6-4, 300-pound offensive tackle, was a sixth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans.

Here is a list of the former KU players on NFL 2002 rosters:

Atlanta Falcons  DB Gerald McBurrows

Arizona Cardinals  DB Kwamie Lassiter, DT Nate Dwyer.

Carolina Panthers  WR Isaac Byrd.

Green Bay Packers  NT Gilbert Brown.

Houston Texans  LS Sean McDermott.

New Orleans Saints  FB Moran Norris

New York Jets  DB Andrew Davison.

San Francisco 49ers  DT Dana Stubblefield.

St. Louis Rams  LB Don Davis.

Tennessee Titans  OG Justin Hartwig.

Two other former Jayhawks are also with NFL teams, but currently inactive.

Rod Jones, an offensive guard for the Washington Redksins, suffered an elbow injury during the preseason and will miss the entire season.

And Tampa Bay Bucs linebacker Ron Warner has been suspended by the commissioner’s office for unspecified reasons and will miss the Bucs’ first four games.
