Montreal’s Tatis back with squad

Montreal Expos third baseman Fernando Tatis returned to the team Sunday, a day after he was suspended for a game following a run-in with Montreal manager Frank Robinson.

Expos general manager Omar Minaya announced prior to Sunday’s series finale that Tatis had served the penalty, saying only that “a team rule was not adhered to.”

Robinson, who celebrated his 67th birthday Saturday, confirmed to La Presse Canadienne’s reporter Sunday that he and Tatis had an altercation that nearly became physical after the third baseman was left out of the starting lineup.

“Yes, there was an incident before the game and Tatis was suspended period,” Robinson said.

Cardinals promote pair

Chicago The St. Louis Cardinals purchased the contract of first baseman Ivan Cruz from Triple-A Memphis on Sunday and recalled right-hander Matt Duff from Double-A New Haven.

McLemore sidelined

Seattle Versatile Mark McLemore was scratched from Seattle’s lineup Sunday because of an injured right elbow, and the Mariners aren’t sure when he’ll play again. McLemore, who will turn 38 on Oct. 4, hyperextended his elbow while making a diving catch in the seventh inning.
