Ottawa soccer routs Columbus

Ottawa High’s boys soccer team opened Class 4A regional play with an 11-1 win against Columbus on Tuesday in Ottawa.

Caleb Mitchell scored four goals, while Jared Sigmund scored a goal and had five assists in the blowout. Ottawa (12-4-1) will play No. 2 seed KC Christian (15-1) this Friday in Prairie Village.

“We scored two goals in the 34th minute to set the tone early,” Cyclones coach Glen Cahill said. “It was cold, wet and muddy, but it was a good job defending by our back four.”

Also scoring goals for the Cyclones were: Brad Skiles, Cameron Norwood, Tim Jones, Adam Sieger and Nick Pellant.

In other area regionals:

l Eudora (0-6) fell to KC Christian, 10-0, in Prairie Village.

l Tonganoxie slipped past Basehor-Linwood, 2-1 in overtime, in Tongie. Travis Andrews scored Tonganoxie’s winning goal, while Kirk Rodell also scored for the Chieftains (6-10-1). They will travel to Shawnee Maranatha on Thursday.

l DeSoto beat Fort Scott, 4-0, at DeSoto. DeSoto (11-5-1) will play top-seeded Mill Valley (14-0-2) Thursday at Mill Valley.

l Perry-Lecompton fell to Lansing, 4-0, in Lansing. The Kaws finished 3-14-1.
