Sebelius campaigns in Lawrence on final stretch

Kansas’ gubernatorial candidates today started their final push toward the Nov. 5 election.

Democrat Kathleen Sebelius stopped this morning at the Westside Deli & Market in Lawrence, urging her supporters to get out the vote.

“Your work is not yet over,” she said to about 30 people gathered at the deli, located at 4931 W. Sixth St.

Meanwhile, Republican Tim Shallenburger campaigned this morning in Kansas City, Kan. Both he and Sebelius are scheduled to speak later today to the Rotary Club in Overland Park.

Sebelius also plans to make stops in Ottawa, Overland Park, Paola and possibly Louisburg.

Ray Petty, a partner in the Westside Deli, said he personally liked both Sebelius and Shallenburger, but that he was supporting Sebelius because he disagreed with some of the social conservative issues pushed by Shallenburger’s supporters.

Also, he said, “She’s stronger on education.”
