Jayhawk golf seventh at Stanford tourney

? Kansas University’s men’s golf team was in seventh place after the first round of The Nelson-Stanford Invitational on Friday.

KU opened the three-day tournament with 288 strokes on the 6,786-yard, par-71 Stanford University Golf Club.

“As a team I think we did so-so today,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “I do know that we are quite a few strokes back after just one round.”

Washington holds the team lead after one round with a 274 total.

Kansas’ Chris Marshall and Tyler Hall are in a tie for ninth place after shooting 69s. KU’s Kevin Ward was tied for 44th with a 74, Andrew Price was tied for 65th at 76 and Ryan Rainer was tied for 90th at 80.

Washington’s Dan Potter was the individual leader at 64.

The tournament resumes today and will end Sunday.
