Counterfeit $10 bills circulating in Lawrence

Lawrence Police are warning businesses to be on the lookout for phony $10 bills.

Police received reports of at least five counterfeit $10 bills being passed at businesses between Sunday and Tuesday.

Two of the bills were discovered by Commerce Bank in the deposit bags from two fast-food restaurants on 23rd Street. Two other counterfeit bills were discovered by employees counting money at Dillons, 1740 Mass., and a customer believes he received one in change from Kwik Shop, 1846 Mass.

“All of the bills are of poor quality,” said Sgt. Mike Pattrick, “and none of the traditional security features are present on these counterfeit bills.”

Police say all of the bills had the same serial number, and the paper quality and color was slightly off. Anyone with information is urged to call Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 843-TIPS.
