Cold and rainy – that’s the forecast

Cozy up to the fireplace and put on an old movie, like “Singin’ in the Rain.”

That’s the prescription for the cool temperatures and gray soggy skies hovering over the Lawrence area Thursday, says Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s the kind of weather good for taking naps, making fires and watching movies,” Makens said. “I’m sure Blockbuster will be busy today.”

Thursday afternoon’s forecast calls for light rain showers, with the high reaching about 42, he said.

More light rain is possible Thursday night, with temperatures dipping overnight to 38, he said.

The showers should be ending by Friday morning, with a mostly cloudy afternoon, he said. The high Friday afternoon will reach about 48.

“It’s going to be perfect football weather tomorrow night cloudy and cold,” Makens said.

Clear warmer weather is ahead for the weekend, with mostly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the upper 50s.

Another round of cloudy skies, showers and highs in the 40s are expected again Monday and Tuesday, he said.
