T-shirt raises money for war victims

New York Save the Children and Marie Claire magazine share one wish to provide protection and support for victims of war worldwide, mostly women and children.

One element of their One World, One Wish campaign is to donate net proceeds of an exclusive DKNY T-shirt that features a pink map of the globe. The donation from each $14.95 shirt is approximately $9.

The funding will go to both those in need right now as well as to help Save the Children and Marie Claire to kick of a larger drive to get the U.S. government to protect women and children caught in the crossfire, according to a statement from the two partners.

The campaign was launched after a recent report by Save the Children referenced a U.N. study that said at the end of the 20th century 90 percent of war victims were civilians, the majority women and children.

Sears catalogs predicted future of fashion

New York The two notable things among the pages of the new book “Everyday Fashions of the Fifties As Pictured in Sears Catalogs” (Dover Publications) are how much prices have changed and how little trendy styles have.

Many of the looks that were popular during the recent New York Fashion Week that previewed spring 2003, including cinched waists, skirt suits and fitted bodices, are here in black-and-white photos from the ’50s.

During the decade of early rock ‘n’ roll, ponytails and stiletto heels, people often used the Sears, Roebuck & Co. mail-order catalog to keep their wardrobes up to date.
