Kansas Speedway to add 1,500 seats

? Kansas Speedway announced Friday that it will add 1,500 seats for next season’s racing.

The new seats will be located on the front stretch toward the turn-one end of the track. The addition will raise the number of grandstand seats at Kansas Speedway to 80,187.

Kansas Speedway president Jeff Boerger said he had originally requested 5,000 new seats for next year, but Speedway owner International Speedway Corp. of Daytona Beach, Fla., wanted fewer seats.

“We are a very conservative company,” Boerger said. “We continue to be conservative with the uncertainty of the (national) economic situation.”

All the major racing events at the speedway have been sellouts, and 5,000 people are on a waiting list for season tickets.
