Dallas ? Welcome to the Top 10 Iowa State Cyclones. Your reward for breaking into the nation’s elite for the first time ever is a trip today to second-ranked Oklahoma.

Then after their trip to OU, the ninth-ranked Cyclones (6-1, 3-0 Big 12) travel next week to the other side of the Red River to play at No. 8 Texas.

Iowa State isn’t having to wait for a chance to prove itself.

The Cyclones are 3-0 in a conference for the first time since 1949. A six-game winning streak has produced their best start in 64 years and moved them into the Top 10 for the first time.

To keep their place, the Cyclones will need another rare occurrence, a win against Oklahoma.

The Sooners (6-0, 2-0) have a 63-5-2 series advantage against Iowa State. Since a win in their first trip to Norman in 1923, the Cyclones are 2-32-1 there, their other wins coming in 1963 and 1990.

In other Big 12 games today, Texas (5-1, 1-1) goes to Kansas State (5-1, 1-1); No. 23 Colorado (4-2, 2-0) is home against Baylor (3-3, 1-1); Nebraska (5-2, 1-1) plays at Oklahoma State (2-4, 0-2); Texas A&M goes to Kansas (2-5, 0-3); and Texas Tech (4-3, 1-1) is host Missouri (3-3, 0-2).

While Iowa State beat Texas Tech 31-17 last weekend after a 3-3 halftime tie, Oklahoma remained undefeated with its third straight win over Texas.

The Sooners aren’t worried the possibility of a letdown. Iowa State has their attention.

“It’s easy to turn around and get hyped up again for anther big week,” said Oklahoma quarterback Nate Hybl. “This is a huge game for their program, I know, so they’re going to come in all juiced up. We’re just going to collect ourselves and hopefully play a fantastic game.”

Coach Bob Stoops said he has heard the talk about a Texas hangover.

“I kind of chuckle at it,” Stoops said. “I don’t know where that comes from. At least in our four years here, that hasn’t been the case.”
