Dale Eugene Hess

Williamstown Graveside services for Dale Eugene Hess, 50, Williamstown, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Underwood Cemetery, east of Williamstown.

Mr. Hess died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at his home after a long fight with cancer.

He was born Nov. 16, 1951, in Lawrence, the son of Albert Eugene and Helen Dolores (McCall) Hess. He had lived in Williamstown since 1977, when he moved there from Lawrence. He was a 1970 graduate of Lawrence High School and attended Topeka Career College.

Mr. Hess worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Douglas County Public Works Department from 1991 to 2001. He had formerly been a security guard at Fairlawn Plaza in Topeka and had worked for Schendel Pest Control in Lawrence for 20 years.

He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Lawrence.

He married Debbie Gorden in June 1974 in Lawrence. They later divorced. He married Mary Luanne Elston on Feb. 23, 1987, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Brian Eugene, Lawrence, and Drew Dedrick, of the home; a stepson, Christopher Johnson, of the home; a daughter, Carey Lynn Hess, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Amanda Kay Criswell, of the home; his parents, Ozawkie; his paternal grandmother, Effie L. Hess, Lawrence; two brothers, Larry, Lawrence, and David, Topeka; a sister, Lisa Goetz, Austin, Tex.; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Barnett Funeral Home, Oskaloosa.
