Club news

The Lawrence Pilot Club met Monday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Members finalized plans for the Fall Antique Show, which is this weekend at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Five members attended the fall council in Parkville, Mo. The club had a fun night at a casino near Topeka. Eleven members and four co-pilots attended.

The club elected Marge Smith as sweetheart of the club for this year.

The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met Oct. 9. The game was stratified and used a Howell movement. First place in A and B went to Don Daugherty and Harry Talley. Helen Huffman and Bob Huffman finished second in A and B. Everard Hughes and Kriz Hughes took third in A and B, and first in C. Fourth place in A went to Frances Vogel and Dorothy Arth. Barb Hamilton and Bill Hamilton finished fifth in A. Lynn Hui and Jo Abbott placed second in C. The game was directed by Don Brennaman.

The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club’s game Monday was attended by 12 tables. The game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.

The North South winners were James Gunn and Harry Shaffer, followed by Chris Lane and Shirley Reese. Kent McCullough and Larry Bodle placed third, followed by Meredith Docking and Julia Brooks. Clyde Romer and Steve Phelps placed fifth. Don Brennaman and Bill Hamilton placed first in the C session, followed by Martie Hartman and Pat Burgstahler.

The East West winners were David Rhea and Christie Thomas, followed by Donna Johnson and Dave Piro. Donna Munson and Mary Fenlon placed third, followed by Shirlie Vaughn and Sally Taylor. Judy Bevan and Robert Anderson placed second in the B session and first in C. Bobbie Figgins and Jean Otney placed third in B while Lois Clark and Betty Collier placed second in C.

The Lawrence Mortar Board Alumni will have its annual potluck supper at 5 p.m. Oct. 27 at the home of Mary Loveland, president. Active members of the Kansas University Torch Chapter of Mortar Board will be guests of the group. The local alumni group welcomes alumni of any Mortar Board chapter to participate in its activities. Lawrence Express Network will have a luncheon meeting at noon Thursday at the Hereford House, 4931 W. Sixth St.
