Anniversaries

Cox

William F. and Catherine “Katie” Cox, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Hampton Inn hospitality room.

They were married Oct. 10, 1942, in Minneapolis, Kan.

Both are retired and were employed at Kansas University.

Katie was an administrative assistant in the student housing department. Bill was an accountant in the research accounting department.

They have three sons, Dr. Kent W. Cox, Solvang, Calif.; Karl O. Cox, Tempe, Ariz.; and Robert W. Cox, Spokane, Wash. They also have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.

Getto

Paul and Winnie Getto, Lawrence, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family during a dinner at Shalor’s restaurant in Lawrence.

They were married Oct. 10, 1942, in Montgomery, Ala., where Dr. Getto served four years in the Army Dental Corps.

They have three children, Paul R. Getto, Topeka; Charles Getto, Lenexa; and Jane Getto, Lawrence.

Stanwix

Richard and Verna Stanwix, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family buffet Oct. 12 at the Lawrence Visitor Center. The event was planned by their children and grandchildren.

Richard Stanwix and Verna Murphy were married Oct. 12, 1952, at Danforth Chapel at Kansas University with the Rev. John Anderson officiating.

Their children are David and LuAnn Metsker, Rick and Marci Stanwix, Sarah and Morris Narcomey, and Chuck and Diane Folks. They are all from the Lawrence area.

They also have eight grandchildren.

Richard is retired from the city of Lawrence, serving many years as chief of the Lawrence Police Department. Verna is retired from Kansas University’s Division of Continuing Education.

Snodgrass

Bruce and Joan Snodgrass, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26 at the American Legion.

They were married Oct. 4, 1952, in Humboldt, where they both graduated from Humboldt High School.

Bruce served in the Army from 1953 to 1955, then graduated from Chanute Junior College. He was building inspector for the Kansas state architect’s office in Topeka for eight years. He was building inspector at Kansas University for two years. Since then, he has been self-employed in land development and farming.

Joan was formerly employed with Southwestern Bell and Monarch Cement Co. She now helps with the family business.

Their children are Col. David and Cindy Snodgrass, Fort Richardson, Alaska; Rick and Julie Miller, Bill and Karla Fleming, and Dennis and Denise Snodgrass, all of Lawrence. They have 12 grandchildren.

The reception will be given by the couple’s children. Family and friends are invited. The couple request no gifts.

Torneden

Carl and Stanett Torneden, Overbrook, will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary with a reception, given by their children, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 26 at Eudora City Hall.

They were married Dec. 28, 1957.

Their children are Rodney Torneden, Wellington; Greg Torneden, Overbrook; Leticia Torneden, Allen, Tex.; Troy Torneden, Lawrence; Sherry Sajowski, Shelby Township, Mich.; Jerry Torneden, Tijeras, N.M.; Darren Torneden, Lawrence; and Becky Torneden, Dallas. They have 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.

Carr

Family and church celebrations are planned to celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of Victor and Carol Carr, Lawrence.

Victor Carr and Carol Soendker were married Oct. 20, 1962, in Kansas City, Mo. The Carrs moved to Lawrence in 1964.

Victor was employed as a printing pressman at Allen Press and Meseraull Printing, Lawrence, and at Mainline Printing, Topeka. For many years, he has worked at his own printing and engraving business in his home.

Carol served as director of children’s ministries at Plymouth Congregational Church for 10 years, followed by 10 years of service as church secretary at First Christian Church. She recently received recognition for 10 years of employment with the Lawrence-area office of the Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.

The Carrs have two children, Gayla Carr and Linda Carr Pickerel, and two grandsons.
