Showers expected for Friday night

If your Friday night plans include sitting in a stadium watching high school football, take along an umbrella.

“We’re looking at a 40 percent chance for showers later on tonight. Some thunder could be heard as well,” said Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist.

“The earliest it would start is around 7 or 8 o’clock. It’s more likely to be around 10 to midnight,” Makens said. “It’ll be a cool evening with showers, possibly by the end of the game. But the rain will end early tomorrow. So we’re not looking for any rain for the KU game.”

Overnight, the temperature will drop into the lower 40s.

By the time the Jayhawks’ football game against Texas A&M starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, the skies will be partly cloudy and the temperature should be about 60, he said.

“Saturday night it will be clear and pretty chilly, about 31 degrees. So it will be another night below freezing,” Makens said.

Sunday’s high will be 63, with sunny skies.

“We have a slight chance Monday and Tuesday for rain,” he said. “That would also be our first real chance of seeing some snowflakes.”

The overnight lows will be in the 30s Sunday through Wednesday. The highs will be 54 on Monday, 45 on Tuesday and 47 on Wednesday, he said.
