Butler County paramedic gives birth in ambulance

Paramedic Amy David already spends a lot of her work day in an ambulance. She didn’t expect to deliver her firstborn child in one.

David, from Butler County, gave birth to Easton Alexander David on Monday in a Sedgwick County ambulance about 10 blocks from Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

“I never thought I’d have a baby in the back of an ambulance, seeing as that’s pretty much my office when I’m at work,” said the new mom. “I’m not used to being on the patient end of the health system.”

Kansas University: White-collar convict to discuss crime

A former chief financial officer of a Kansas City, Mo., investment firm who pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy and income tax charges will present Kansas University business students a personal lesson today on corporate crime and its consequences.

Richard Halford’s appearance is part of the community service component of his sentence. He was chief financial officer of Owl Securities and Investments Ltd.

Halford, 67, of Overland Park, will speak at 4:45 p.m. in Alderson Auditorium at the Kansas Union. The presentation is open to the public.

Construction: Workers cut water line to Gaslight Village

Residents of Gaslight Village mobile home park were left without water Monday after construction crews cut a water line, Lawrence city officials said. The break occurred about 10:30 a.m. and water was off for about two hours until repairs were made, a Gaslight office worker said.

The 4-inch line was cut by a crew working on the Home Depot construction site at 31st and Iowa streets west of the mobile home park, said city spokeswoman Lisa Patterson.

Police: Adult, juvenile arrested for threat with handgun

Charges were pending Monday against a man arrested for allegedly threatening people with a handgun.

Lawrence Police were called about 8:30 p.m. Friday to a disturbance in an apartment at 1745 Tenn. Officers were told a 22-year-old Lawrence man and a 16-year-old Topeka boy had entered the apartment and threatened people there. The alleged victims were two men and two women, all in their 20s.

Police confiscated a .38-caliber pistol and arrested the suspects, who were near the apartment. The 16-year-old was taken to the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center. The 22-year-old was taken to Douglas County Jail, where he remained Monday.
