Kansas golf team in fourth place

? Kansas University’s women’s golf team was in fourth place after two rounds of the 17-team Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational.

KU opened the two-day tournament with a first-round total of 309, and followed it with a season-best 303 for a two-round score of 612 on the 5,928 yard, par-72 Willowbend Golf Club.

Leader Kansas State shot 603, while Texas-El Paso totaled 604 and Illinois State 607.

KU’s Heather Rose fired rounds of 77 and 74, good for ninth place at 151. Junior Jennifer Bawanan and senior Jill MacDonald totaled 152 strokes, good for a tie for 14th.

“Things are going really well,” KU coach Megan Menzel said. “We are only five back of UTEP and I think the girls know we can get over them tomorrow.”
