FSHS player of the week: Pearson Skepnek

Class: Senior

HT: 5-10 WT: 170

Positions: Wide receiver/cornerback

The game: Skepnek was one of the bright spots in the Firebirds’ 35-7 loss to Olathe North last Friday. He was among Free State’s leading tacklers, including a big hit on Eagles running back Mike McCall in the fourth quarter. That’s no surprise to FSHS coach Bob Lisher, though. Skepnek may be among the Sunflower League leaders in interceptions, but he’s one of the Firebirds’ biggest hitters.

Comment: “We’ve known Pearson would hit you since he was a sophomore. He might not be the biggest kid on the field, but he’ll go after the biggest kid,” Lisher said.

“He also recovered two fumbles. He’s always around the football.”
