Sipe

He was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Hayward, the son of John and Bertha (Meyer) Sipe. He grew up and attended school in Hayward. He moved to Chicog in 1988.

Mr. Sipe was a World War II veteran. He served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe. After the war he worked as a carpenter in Eau Claire and in Kansas. He retired from construction in 1978 and became a custodian at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence, Kan., for 10 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 852 of Lawrence, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 1897 of Hayward, and was a charter 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Pope John Paul I, Assembly No. 2461 and a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1372, both of Lawrence.

He married Penny Wise in May 1970 in Lawrence, Kan. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Michael, Florida; five daughters, Margo Wilde, Elk Mound, Terry Corrie, Minong, Julie Stowe and Debbie Filkins, both of Lawrence, Kan., and Michelle Beaulieu, Knob Noster, Mo.; an adopted daughter, Barb Steenerson, Elk Mound; three brothers, John, Orlando, Fla., Floyd, Cumberland, and Howard, Pierre, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Scalzo Funeral Home, Spooner, where there will be a rosary service at 7 p.m. There will also be a rosary service an hour prior to the mass Tuesday at the church.
