Koch maintains lead

Swede cards second-round 67 in LPGA event

? Carin Koch was a little apprehensive about starting the second round the Mobile LPGA Tournament of Champions on Friday, unsure of how she would react after opening the tournament with a career-low 62.

Koch chipped in for a birdie on the first hole and went on to a 5-under 67 that gave her a four-stroke lead over Cristie Kerr at Magnolia Grove Golf Club’s Crossings Course on the soggy Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

“I knew there would be good scoring again,” said Koch, who is at 15-under 129. “I told myself if I could get to 15, that would be good and I was able to do that so I’m happy with my position.”

Kerr charged up the leaderboard with a 63 that put her at 11 under.

“It could have been a 59 today, easily,” Kerr said of her nine-birdie round.

Catriona Matthew (66) and Emilee Klein (68) were at 10 under while defending champion Se Ri Pak had a 70 and was another stroke back. Annika Sorenstam, seeking her fourth straight LPGA win and 10th of the year, birdied two of the last four holes to salvage a 70 that left her at 7 under.
