Holiday observance to close some offices

Most government offices and public services in Lawrence will be open Monday when the nation observes Columbus Day.

They also will be open in most area towns. Exceptions include McLouth and Leavenworth County offices.

Douglas County District Court will be closed Monday.

Most banks will be closed.

Lawrence Bus Co. buses will run on Monday. Lawrence Transit System buses also will run as normal.

City of Lawrence refuse and trash collection will continue on its regular schedule.

There will be no changes in Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department schedules.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open.

Douglas County Senior Services’ senior meals program and Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Meals on Wheels service will make regularly scheduled deliveries.

Classes will be in session and offices open on Monday at Kansas University. Haskell Indian Nations University classes are canceled.

The Postal Service won’t make deliveries on Monday. Express Mail deliveries will be made. Mail pickup from collection boxes won’t be made as posted on individual boxes. UPS will operate on its normal schedule.

All Douglas County Farm Service Agency offices will be closed Monday.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open for phone and walk-in business from 4 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday. USA Today will be delivered.
