SM South tops Lions

? Lawrence High coach Keith Nelson was anything but upset following the Lions’ 4-0 loss to Shawnee Mission South on Tuesday at SMS District Stadium.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead 22 minutes in. Despite dominating time of possession, LHS couldn’t finish in the offensive end, Nelson said.

“That’s probably the best team we’ve seen all year,” the LHS coach said of the Raiders. “We really played outstanding. We played 22 minutes without giving up a goal. They just had outstanding players that made outstanding plays. Really all four goals were exceptional goals.

“There really wasn’t too much negative I could say to the guys.”

Nelson said defenders Tyler Rush and Josh Payne were outstanding, and cited midfielder Josh Yurek and forward Josh Lorenzo for their play.

The Lions (1-10-1) will travel Thursday to SM East.
