Area agencies seek volunteers

The Pelathe Community Resource Center is looking for volunteers to staff the food pantry. The pantry is currently open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. two days a week. The center hopes to extend those hours. The center is flexible on schedules and will work with what time volunteers have to offer. Shifts are usually covered by two or three people.

Kids Voting is still looking for volunteers to staff booths at 60 polling sites on Election Day. Volunteers can work individually or in a group, but sign ups are due by Oct. 21. Call 865-5030 to learn more.

Immediate volunteer needs

 The American Red Cross Douglas County chapter needs volunteers to help with blood drives throughout the year. Call Jane Blocher at 843-3550.

 Douglas County Senior Services needs volunteers to call current donors and ask if they will continue donating. Volunteers will not solicit new donors. Volunteers are also sought to help with Coupons for Caring. To learn more, call Jessie Lusher at 842-0543.

 Mother to Mother is looking for volunteers to assist with their program for low-income mothers and children. Volunteers can sponsor programs such as taking children to the pumpkin patch or throw a holiday party for moms and their children. Fund raising and help with a letter-writing campaign is also sought.  Salvation Army needs volunteers to paint cabinets and organize and clean the food pantry. They will also need help this fall taking and processing applications for the Holiday Assistance Program. The Toy Shop program also needs volunteers. Call Rebecca Schuetz at 843-4188 to help or learn more.
