Mostly sunny, cooler weather ahead for weekend

You can put your umbrella away for awhile, but keep on your jacket. Mostly sunny, colder weather is in store for the Lawrence area through the weekend.

“And it doesn’t look like it’s going to rain for five to six more days,” said Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist. “It’s going to clear out and start to dry out.”

The Lawrence area recorded 1.17 inches of rain this week, bringing the official total for the year to 22.74 inches. On average, Lawrence would have 34.34 inches by Oct. 4.

Friday’s afternoon high will be in the mid 60s, with the low dropping overnight to 45.

“Tomorrow will be warmer. We’ll be at about 72 after a pretty chilly night tonight,” he said.

Another cold front will come through the area on Sunday.

“It’s not going to give us clouds. It will just chill us down and the high will be around the mid 60s,” Makens said. “The bulk of next week will be in the 70s again.”
